the states of Being
Integrated Media
I delved into the transformation of my body's mobility that occurred during my journey into pole dancing. I explored the integration of sensory components as a means to immerse spectators into my personal experience. By intertwining auditory and visual elements, I relied on the transitions of the states of matter to construct a narrative that vividly portrays the evolution of my movements.
“For my thesis, I embarked on a personal exploration of self discovery and empowerment. I recorded videos of myself in various environments and contorted my body into different shapes, engaging in a deep exploration of my body’s mobility and its ability to transform. This process became a means of testing the limits of my physical form, as well as a metaphor for the evolving nature of my self awareness. I relied on sensory components as a way to immerse spectators into what I was thinking and feeling while going through this experience. As a result, intertwining auditory and visual components helped narrate the transformative journey of my evolving body's movements by following the transitions of the states of matter (gas, liquid and solid) as a narrating element. Practicing pole dance served as the culmination of this exploration, represented as the final element (solid) as well as the final stage where my body and mind felt truly whole. As I gripped, twirled and spinned around the pole, it became more than just a physical practice, but a gateway where I could express myself freely. My work turned into a testament to the transformative power of self expression, movement and the exploration of the self. I hope it can inspire others to embark on their own journeys of self exploration and to embrace the uniqueness that lies within each of us. ”
