Beaded Surgical Mask

Fashion
2024
Glass beads, cotton thread, surgical mask
4 x 6 inches
This piece was created for a third-year Indigenous beading course. I chose to bead on a surgical mask to bring light and colour to an item that had become an everyday necessity during and post-pandemic, which is often associated with being sterile and negative. This piece was to reflect on how we as people can control our outlook on life and how we can make active decisions to better our environment for ourselves and others. Although beading on a mask renders it useless for actual protective usage, this piece is more to be worn as a fashion statement.
