Ancestor Cult

Painting
2023
Oil on canvas
54 × 96 in.
A painting that feels like an inherited code. Ancestor Cult transforms Ukrainian embroidery and ornamental pattern into a dense, ghostly field where memory, protection, ritual, and repetition become structure.

“Ancestor Cult builds a field of repeated marks drawn from Ukrainian embroidery and ornamental pattern. Its pale, textured surface suggests a textile, relic, map, or prayer object worn down by time, while the repeated diamond structures create a rhythm of protection, devotion, and return. The painting treats inheritance as something carried through surface and repetition. Pattern becomes a quiet form of presence: layered, coded, weathered, and still active.”
