Port Credit is considered to be a hidden gem alongside the lakeshore of Lake Ontario. However, the area has been undergoing serious urbanization. These current and past land uses have compromised the quality and identity of the Port. Additionally, the underused and neglected aquatic life of the adjacent Lake Ontario can provide an exciting opportunity for the port. I propose to create a fish market. I plan to revitalize an existing warehouse building and adaptively reuse this building to create a fish market. This will enhance the quality of life in the port, but also take advantage of the aquatic life of what Lake Ontario can possibly provide.Fish benefits the ecosystem and ecology of Lake Ontario. However, in Lake Ontario the ecosystem of the current population is diminishing and underused because of the quality. If we were to improve the quality and ecosystem of the aquatic life, this Fish market will show how important fish is to our communities. It will not only enhance the existing community but will also act as a new landmark for the Port, welcoming people from all over. It will support a variety of fisheries this includes; recreational fishing, commercial fishing, and boating activities. Using the fish can bring cultures and economy to not only the people of Port Credit, but in Ontario in all.
“Port Credit is just one of many locations possible for integrating fish into our communities in an exciting way both for the local community and Ontario.”
