a mother's knit | a bungalow; Tottenham, ON
Edition of 10Working through a new medium and process of image-making dictates that I acquire a completely new "alphabet" with which to create new words and assemble new prose. Like a grandmother teaching her grandchild to knit, my hands stumbled through stringing together coherent knots, stitches, and proofs as gentle hands of print know-how guided me to create these works.
“An exercise in aquatint proved to be essential for the work in which I illustrated the hands of my mother knitting a teeny tiny Bri. This image was juxtaposed with a soft ground print of a knitted sample. The soft ground captured the impression and trace of the knit. This plate prints as an index of the knots and stitches I lost in an almost methodical manner as I re-learned how to knit on the bias. ”
