Solace in Your Remnants

Solace in Your Remnants is a 2D single-channel animation about a girl who mourns the loss of a recent friendship after her friend moves away. She tries to fill the void left behind by buying the stuffed bear that reminds her of her former friend to comfort herself. The main themes explored in this work are taking the time to grieve a loss friendship at your own pace as well as finding comfort and bittersweet acceptance to move on. The title Solace in Your Remnants refers to the character finding comfort in one of the remaining things that reminds her of her former friend: the bear that her former friend has. The artistic style of the work is inspired by the chibi style that is often seen in anime to exude a cute and friendly look. The work was inspired by the emotional attachment held onto items by people such as myself because items can hold sentimental value that reminds them of someone they hold dear that is no longer in their life or a time in the past that they miss and treasure. This work hopes to send the message that it’s okay to take the time to grieve a friendship since friendships are also, important relationships that are precious and worth grieving over.
