Cyanotype, paper, and text on wood canvas
12" x 12" inches
Mixed media installation on longing, connection, and the blurred line between human and machine. The speaker has fallen in love with her computer. The fusion of human and machine isn't cold or clinical; it's romantic, vulnerable and deeply personal. The speaker yearns for closeness, for touch, and there’s a sense of isolation not just from people, but from understanding. The cyanotype print is a visual representation of the poem, showing the viewer their life through their eyes, but ultimately the sense of belonging to society was never there to begin with.
“In this piece, I wanted to capture the ache of modern loneliness through the lens of techno-romanticism. With an increase in artificial intelligence, people are treating technology less as a tool, but more of a presence-possibly as a lover, a god, or even part of the self. I picked images in the cyanotype collage relating to surveillance, as I view it having the capacity to be something romantic. The thought of constantly being watched is creepy, but if you think about it in a more romantic or spiritual sense (angels looking over you), it becomes more comforting. It’s a human heart dreaming in binary.”
