Involuntary Jerk is a shared identity and collaborative poetry zine.

“A collaborative art experiment which ask audiences whether creation can ever rightfully 'belong' to anyone. Have our identities been constructed by the 'myth' of individuality? And how does the concept of ownership affect our lives on this planet? Anishnawbeg and First Nations teachings spanning from Turtle Island across the globe stress the interdependence of all living things. Anishnawbeg law requires us to consider the land as pedagogical - as an entity inseparable from human life and one that’s entitled to its own rights. Neo-colonial and extractive capitalism keep pushing us further toward ecological disaster. Disharmony in nature is now manifesting itself within our own bodies and body politic across the globe. Now more than ever it is important for colonially inherited knowledge to be reimagined in the hopes of creating a sustainable relationship with the land and all of its inhabitants. Involuntary Jerk asks us to remember that all creation is a collaborative act - that the individual cannot be separated from their specific surroundings and their connection to all things – past, present, and future.”
