A scroll format presents an illustrative painting of the new beginning that is being unravelled.

“Dawning as the literal meaning is the beginning, first appearance, or coming into existence. To me, it is like the revelation and realization of everything once everything ends, something new is beginning. This work closely relates more to my personal journey from high school to the end of university. Where it begins at the bottom where things are dark, rocky and in abstracted ways mountains and grasslands, climbing to the middle where it shows the uncertainty and muddling of different thoughts blending with clouds which I associate them as always moving forward taking any shape and form we imagine. Which leads up to a clearer image of a character I often include in these whimsical illustrative paintings. I like to say she is the subconscious character design I made that has now become a part of my practice and story. And having the top to be where we are currently with a lot clearer and brighter imagery compared to the bottom half. Showcases a clearer mindset and goal for the journey onwards in continuing to indulge in pop cultures such as k-pop and anime while working it into my practice. Leading to the discovery of something that balances, if not even embraces both the artist side and content creation side. In a way, this is a reflection of my 4 years at ocad garnering different skillsets in a variety of mediums I wanted to try to implement some of it in the work like the skins I’ve experimented with, character design, printmaking, painting etc. As well in relation to the pandemic as it has drastically changed the world we live in.”
