"Moon Rabbits" is an AI39 winner inspired by the Japanese myth of Tsuki no Usagi, the rabbit in the moon.

“"Tsuki no Usagi" is a Japanese myth about the rabbit on the moon. The myth tells the story of the man on the moon that visited Earth and asked the animals for food. The rabbit, unable to provide food for the man, sacrificed himself as the food. Surprised and moved by the rabbit's sacrifice, the man invited the rabbit to live on the moon with him. Now upon the moon, the rabbit pounds rice cakes. This illustration imagines the aftermath of the rabbit’s story, showing the populated rabbits roaming a rice covered moon.”
