Seaweed dress (1/3)

Fashion
2026
Water-soluble threads, waste threads, power-mesh fabric
28 x 22 inches
This is the first of three dress I created for a collection for my Thesis project: Within The Sea. The 'Seaweed' dress represents the effect of textile waste in the ocean on seaweed, and how it contributes to its degradation. I machine embroidered various shades of green fabric scraps and threads into seaweed strips that represent the degradation process. The release of dyes and chemicals from this waste not only penetrates the already-living seaweed, but also impacts the potential growth of new plants.
