Fleshed, 2024, is an installation with bronze and ode'imin (strawberry) blood (juice).
“Ode'imin, is the Anishinaabemowin word for “heart berry” or strawberry. The bronze work imitates the sliced flesh of an ode'imin, with a focus on the abundance of seeds the berry offers us. As ode'iminan blood pools underneath the bronze work, we are encouraged to honour the life of the odeimin. What does it mean to slice the flesh of a living spirit? How does our flesh differ? How are we similar? The intersections of our flesh become — fleshed —- together. Fingers stained by blood. Odeimin flesh becomes one with mine, deeply embedded into my skin. ”
