Ashley, inspired by the non-playable character within Resident Evil 4. I express a quiet sense of longing and sadness for the way the character was originally constructed and received. Ashley functions as the central objective of the game, yet because she exists within the “damsel in distress” trope. Her body is one that moves and exists within the game without awareness of itself as an object of vision. This positioning denies the character interiority and instead situates her as perpetually available to the player’s gaze.
