Maybe If I Dig, I Can Find Something for You to Love
Painting

30" x 36"
Shame in your being, self-destruction with the goal of validation. Feeling unworthy of love in your natural state, breaking yourself to rationalize why you deserve a basic need. When we feel like we need a reason for someone to love us, we are saying we do not deserve love unless we are useful, our value determined by servitude rather than existence. We dismantle ourselves before we even have the chance to be loved or seen because we cannot see our inherent value, while the embarrassment and shame of revealing ourselves reinforce the idea that our negative qualities or insecurities are our most important traits, and thus we need to break and reduce ourselves to be accepted.
