Sudden Tranquility, Drowning in Waves
Painting
2020
Oil paint on canvas
18in x 24in
This piece speaks to the very beginning of the pandemic and the first lockdown showcasing an oceanic scene representing the feelings felt during those uncertain times. The first mention of the symptoms where people mentioned their inability to breathe and feel like they are being suppressed underwater. As well as touching upon those stuck at home and artists who may be experiencing burnout. Overwhelmed and stressed to the point artists like myself are unable to create to the best of their abilities.
“The sudden change from our daily hustle with streets filled with movement turned silent. The feeling that underwent during the transition left a lot of confusion and frustration. While at the same time it has become a time for people to take a break, spend time with their household. This painting allowed me to break free of the artist block I've been experiencing throughout my second year and focus on what I want to convey during the time of painting and hope it resonates to the audience and other artists alike.”
