Infestation

Painting

Infestation presents a distorted skull within a half moon frame, centring the head. Insects traverse the face, engaging surface and structure. Deep reds and dark tones, suggest decay and texture, while highlights draw focus to insects and teeth. The close-up creates an intense, contained space.

“This work examines themes of intrusion and transformation through the face. The presence of insects introduces a sense of invasion, destabilizing the figure and creating tension between surface and structure. The close-up composition and distorted form, emphasize discomfort and unease, while challenging the boundary between attraction and repulsion. The use of red and dark tonal values intensifies the atmosphere, linking the visual experience to heightened sensitivity and perception.”

“I explore that in-between space where attraction and discomfort exist at the same time. Is it gross or is it beautiful?”
