Thesis: Face to Face

Environmental Design
2020
The purpose of this thesis was to investigate and utilize urban planning techniques to promote social interaction within the city, and provide spaces of respite within the dense urban infrastructure. To see the full thesis book, which includes the research and analysis behind this project, please click on the pdf link below.

“A combination of busy roadways and existing public spaces (such as sidewalks) within the urban environment interferes with promoting social interaction, as there are very few areas that encourage people to linger. As a result, public space is no longer synonymous with social space. To transform and rejuvenate face-to-face interaction, it is important to re-evaluate urban planning. Particularly in dense cities, it is imperative that we look at how we can use existing opportunities within urban environments to create spaces that promote social interactions.”
