This is the second work in a series of small, detailed paintings of surfaces, which include stone, cement and lichen. Painted with care and employing traditional techniques, these objects are darkly luminous, mysterious and tactile. Despite their detailed nature, the surfaces I depict are intentionally difficult to identify; it is unclear whether they are living or inert. In this way, they exist somewhere on the border between life and death; a site of horror, but one that is also fertile, dynamic and deserving of care.
