The Cocoon is my investigation into body horror and women’s bodily autonomy. Through the creation of a fictional film and the story behind it, I built a promotional world around it, blending fiction and reality. The Cocoon is, at its shallowest, a love letter to horror and all the comfort it has provided me through the years. Moreover, it’s a reflection on shared experiences, and a revenge fantasy against the patriarchal system that keeps everyone, regardless of gender, captive. It’s all my rage and my sorrow and my fear and my joy bundled up and splattered on a canvas. I don’t think I’m saying anything new with The Cocoon, just another voice in a collective. Its a projection of my fears and a prayer that they won’t come true.
