In pursuit of...

"In pursuit of …" is a multi-media installation consisting of nine cast bronze photograms layered with a projected video. Stemming from my own experience as a queer, gender-nonconforming person in the Lithuanian community — a culture that linguistically and thus conceptually is binary — I utilize glitching as a metaphor for the disruptive experience of my presence in these community spaces.

“Playing with the idea of transformation, I was interested in the interplay between digital life and reality. The digital space becomes an imaginative place, seen through its animation and colorful projections while the real is, though lustrous, more grounded and bound by earthly constraints. Bronze, in its associations with monuments and historical commemoration, was an intriguing material to me as it would suggest that these queer forms/bodies have a storied relationship with Lithuanian culture.”
