This project is pointless. Under the guise of creating a more convenient way to carry around one’s everyday essentials, I’ve constructed a contraption that is so unnecessarily specific and cumbersome, that it actually hinders accessibility to these “essential items”. For example, there is no world in which a pack of gum needs to be protected by two layers of solid wood and velvet, nor is it helpful to anyone to have in their possession an unopenable box that holds a single credit card. The uselessness of these boxes is, of course, absurd, but the true absurdity of this project lies in the ridiculous amount of time it took to construct. Everyday Essentials is a study of absurdity and the search for the joy that comes with making things that mean nothing.Full thesis document available at link below.
