In this student project, I was asked to renovate an existed condo project. I was assigned to “client H” and provided with a condo floorplan. My clients named Dot and John, they were both psychiatrists, both kept an office in downtown Toronto, but separated from each other in different style. John was born in Australia, and Dot was Canadian born, but of Indian descent. They had two grown married children who bring the grandchildren over on occasion, but no one ever stays over. Dot and John were impeccable with respect to order and cleanliness, and they regarded their home as their sanctuary. They both liked a limited open concept. Dot enjoyed cooking, and she loved good quality appliances. Hence, their taste was for both traditional and contemporary, and interested in creating a calm environment.

“The concept was “sanctuary”. This word was defined as a sacred place in its original meaning, by extension the term has come to used for a safe place for humans. Having conceived a dynamic concept in mind, I brought nature through furnishing to harmonize space for comfortable living. My goal was to create a calm and serene space for my clients to relax after a long-day work, and they could feel safe and warm at the moment they enter their home. The overall impression was modern yet elegant. ”
