India Ink, Henna and Wood Panel
19" x 39"
Combining the two ideas of capturing land and amending memory is a 19” x 39” ink and henna on a wood panel piece. Initially drawing a familiar memory of the land in India, I resorted to covering the intricately detailed drawing with thicker henna designs. Since henna is a medium that can easily fissure once dried, the idea was to scrape off the henna to reveal the underlying image of ink. As the process of the ink drawing grew to be more detailed and a part of my craft was embedded within the picture, I felt there to be a great deal of effort applied for it to only be covered with henna in the end. But once the process of applying henna started, I felt content and convinced that covering the whole board was the right thing to do; it pertains to the overall image of what I conceived to be a memory. My Memory என் நினைவு (Eṉ niṉaivu).
