“Bhartiya Sanskriti is a collection of digital fabric prints inspired by personal experiences of being a third-culture kid living outside India and seeking to understand my changing relationship with my heritage. The collection includes a series of 12 bold and colourful prints with bindis (circular forms) and lines from the Indian map being my main motifs. These contemporary prints are to be used for traditional apparel like kurta and saris. Traditional colours like red, saffron, yellow, blue, white and pink are primary to my collection, as well as colours that are seen on modern ethnic wear in India (lavender, teal, mauve, brown and black). My collection of designs uses motifs from my artworks that I created digitally. Through the collection and the process of making, I am able to channel the anxieties of missing out on my own ethnic culture while I lived in five different countries.”
