“Bea-Witched is a graphic novel for young audiences ranging from 7-10 years old that follows the story of a 12-year-old witch named Beatrice. This novel explores the themes of self-discovery and family history, telling a story of love, determination, and a desire to rekindle what has been lost for so long. Our story follows Beatrice as she discovers a secret note that foreshadows that secrets of her family will be revealed to her that same day. After class, Beatrice’s locker reveals a hidden entrance to the basement of the school. Her curiosity is piqued, and after heading through the secret entrance, she discovers a hidden book. Once Bea’s mother, Morgana, learns that she has discovered the hidden artifact, she reassures her not to fret. However, this discussion ends in a heated debate between the voices of curiosity and authority. Beatrice then chooses to take it upon herself to discover her own family history, taking ownership and learning things that she never expected! By using 2D stylized cartoons and bright colour palettes, this novel aims to captivate young readers in its magical tale and whimsical characters, allowing them to resonate with Beatrice and encouraging them to explore themselves, their passions, and ask questions about the world around them.”
