The Fall of Ganga

“The Fall of Ganga” uses the story of the Goddess Ganga, the personification of the River Ganges, to depict the contrast between the historical veneration of femininity in South Asian culture with its current degradation.

“This illustration is a part of my Thesis series, May the Yakshi Rise Again! that contrasts South Asian women's issues with various feminist aspects of ancient South Asian culture. “The Fall of Ganga” depicts Goddess Ganga being sent down from the heavens as the Ganges River, the holiest river in South Asia, as well as the most polluted.”
