I have created a Day of the Dead altar that represents through writing and photography the experience of having two homes and how these come together as one. The altar also reflects on the topic of how to honour and respect something you love while still acknowledging its flaws. “Through the essential elements of an ofrenda, photographs and writing, as well as mementos from both my lives in Mexico and Canada, I demonstrate essential aspects of my experience of having two homes. An altar can have many levels, but mine is made of three: my life in Mexico at the bottom given than it has been the longest part of my life, my life in Canada at the top given that there is room for more in the future, and the level in the middle that represents how these two lives merge.”
