Allergy Chain is a 2D frame-by-frame animation that combines both hand-drawn and rotoscoping techniques to portray an imaginary chain reaction of bizarre allergy symptoms which animals and a human experience. This project aims to gain a laugh from the audience by displaying symptoms of allergy in odd but humourous ways. As a sufferer of seasonal pollen allergy, I tend to think about allergies often and I was inspired to portray the internal struggles in my head and the changes that occur in my body due to allergic symptoms in a lighthearted way. The story depicts three animals and a human having a unique symptom from their allergy ultimately tied together like a chain by passing down their results to the next character. The title Allergy Chain comes from the idea of the food chain of animals along with the question of “what if the animals are allergic to their main sources of foods or their environments?” Though the idea of the food chain in animation has been visually altered to be more of a 100m relay between the characters receiving the baton from the previous runner, the word chain remains its meaning in the literal way of connecting the characters.
