embroidery thread on tulle fabric
48 x 88 inches
Using thread on tulle, I created line and contour drawings of four seated female figures that appear suspended in space.

“In this work, I aim to blur the distinction between fine arts and art forms that have traditionally been designated a ‘feminine craft’, like embroidery and quilting. I applied traditional drawing concepts to a non-traditional material, using colour, contrast, and line thickness to establish advancing and receding forms. The completed wall-hanging reflects domestic textiles, and explores the vulnerable female form and the fragility of life through the present and yet absent figures floating on the delicate, transparent surface.”
