There is no perfect moment: Fragmented Memory and Life Between Korea and Canada
Painting
2026
Acrylic on Canvas
48"x36", 16"X20", 24"X18"
This body of work combines painting, photo collage, and paper weaving to explore fragmented images and layered compositions.Using acrylic paint alongside photographic elements, the work brings together multiple scenes within a single surface.Through the physical interweaving and layering of images, different moments and visual fragments are integrated into one composition. The work presents overlapping visual structures that invite the viewer to move between distance and proximity in order to perceive the image.
“This work explores the complexity and duality of human life, particularly shaped by my experience of living between Korea and Canada. It reflects how emotions such as happiness and loss, presence and absence, can coexist within a single moment.By combining fragmented images, I challenge the idea of a fixed or perfect moment, suggesting instead that life is composed of overlapping memories, relationships, and contradictions.Rooted in personal experience, the work invites viewers to reflect on their own fragmented narratives and the interconnected nature of time and identity.”
