Polypropylene patio chairs, electrets (electrostatic pucks) made from chair plastic, electrostatic field
48 x 30 x 20 inches
An electret is a polarized polymer material that holds a semi-permanent electrostatic charge. In commercial settings, it is used as a stable source of electricity in microphones and telephones, and it is also used to register movement in motion detection devices. Polypropylene is an excellent electrical insulator, and it is thus commonly used to manufacture electrets. In this work, each used polypropylene chair holds four electrets made of its own material, maintaining a static field in the surrounding area.
