A Captured Moment 5

Painting
2021
oil on paper
12 x 16 inches
One of eight paintings in my 'A Captured Moment' series that offer gestural interpretations of the sky based on images I have taken of clouds.

“Through an introspective interpretation of captured moments, I explore the uncertainty of space and time and the transitory human experience. The fragile and perishable surface of paper emphasizes the innate ephemerality of clouds, and connects to the parallel between fading photographs and fleeting moments. Isolated stills of clouds have an ambiguous style, and without physical markers they could be from anywhere, anytime. In my paintings of the sky, I reimagine this blurred and hidden reality within translucent glazes, muted colours and subtly developed forms, as intangible clouds [dis]appear and [re]emerge with vague familiarity.”
