The Filipino community near Bathurst and Wilson lacks a dedicated space for gathering, cultural expression, and connection. Most interactions happen in temporary places like stores and restaurants, which limits cultural visibility and weakens connections between generations. Despite a strong presence in the area, there is no shared space that reflects Filipino identity, values, and everyday life. This project proposes “Home of Threads: Magkasama,” a permanent cultural hub designed to support community life through spaces for events, shared meals, small businesses, cultural exhibits, and recreation. Inspired by weaving, the design brings people, programs, and traditions together, creating a strong, visible, and connected Filipino community.
“My thesis proposes establishing ‘Home of Threads: Magkasama’ at Bathurst and Wilson, transforming an area lacking dedicated cultural space into a permanent Filipino community hub. By introducing spaces for gathering, shared meals, cultural expression, small businesses, and recreation, the project strengthens cultural visibility and intergenerational connection, creating a rooted and inclusive place for community life”
