Digital illustration take on glitch art

“Digital art has made its way as a comfortable medium for which I draw in. I’ve grown in both the traditional and digital realms, honing an appreciation for both while growing alongside the advancements of technology. That said, even though I rely heavily on the digital, I don’t personally see myself as the type to keep up with the modern speed of the rapid advancements of tech. In this regard, the advancements in computers and AI have shaken me, especially as of late being exposed to unfiltered monitoring of its use. Despite the mass concerns of AI “art”, I wanted to call on and play with the medium I love and feel so comfortable with, in a mindset that takes the creativity, fun and ease of digital and the negative of technology (glitch) and create an art piece that’s of both the good and Bad. As the transition between traditional to digital wasn’t as smooth and the transition carries the same hostile negativities as AI art today.I’ve taken inspiration from primarily the glitch art style, in addition to outside contemporary artists whose traditional styles carry an aesthetic that could easily be transferred into the digital using various filters and editing methods to recreate effects like pixel sorting, glitching, ghost imaging, etc. The pose I chose was something of a neutral mood (Ex; sitting using one’s phone) as I wanted the rest of the piece to be what pops out to the viewer. I used different methods to portray the model, first with the sketch, then painted with ‘traditional’ brushes, then used a 3D model, a masked silhouette and a contour drawing of the entire pose. I decided to go with the digital medium, the effects, features, assets, and models was combined and heavily processed and edited to capture the capabilities of what the digital medium can do in contrast to what we can only imagine and manually do with traditional materials. The composition was meant to call on how the digital image can easily be replicated in multiple fashions, and how the advancements of technology can be both overwhelming and fragile in its build (glitching which happens when there’s damage or a malfunction)The palette I went for is a plethora of hues, specifically, that utilizes the saturation intensity of RGB. The inspirations I took were a mix between pastel, intensive rainbow, and black and white monochrome. I wanted to meet in between with all these palettes including utilizing colours of red/yellow for the liquified effect to replicate wires. The palette I chose is what I believe carries a very artificial/digital feel.
