The masked characters of the Abyss Watchers in Dark Souls III can be read as camouflaged bodies that resist a fixed identity. A total concealment of the body and face allows the possibility of a projection of character, as the player imposes their own meaning. Clad in their uniform of armor, there is a lack of facial identity creates an interpretation that happens outside of gendered visibility. Their repetition of form and overlays, representing their soul, passing from one body to the next.
