Cultural dysphoria is a feeling of identity displacement and detachment from a culture. It is a feeling many multicultural individuals experience. As a CBC (Canadian born Chinese), I especially feel disconnected with my Asian side. I often compare my own experiences as an Asian to others, and I always feel invalidated because I’m missing many aspects of what makes an Asian person Asian. A home, a community and the language. Yunyun: Loraine is a visual autoethnography that unveils my personal complex with my Asian, Chinese Canadian identity. Through this diaristic book I respond to life occurrences and events such as my childhood, and reflect on those experiences that influenced my cultural identity. This work intends to connect my narratives to those of other biculturals such as American-born Chinese/ Canadian-born Chinese (ABC/CBC) to initiate their own self-discovery and self- acceptance in their two cultures. This project represents an ongoing one for me and will be continued after leaving OCADU. This is prepared and presented as a manuscript for publishers.
