Environmental Design
A Space No Longer Meant For Us

“This thesis proposes a burial as a form of resistance, rather than demolition. The initiative based at the Ontario Science Centre, addresses Toronto’s rapid erasure of culture and ecology in favour of mass urban development in the city. The Centre’s buildings are buried with earth dug from the site’s planned developable areas, and the ground is transformed into a field of craters that serve both scar and barrier from humans. There is no human programming no access. There is no invitation to return. The design separates the site into three sections, humanity, excavated craters and mounds, and a natural reserve free to grow wild. Nature gradually reclaims the area converting it into a refuge beyond human use and control. This is not a solution; it is a rejection. It does not benefit the city; it steps away. The Last Offer expresses care for the vanishing green spaces in cities like Toronto. It is an initial sacrifice of land as a strategy of protection from human greed. It imagines a future shaped by our absence.
