WeekWear
Industrial Design
2023
This project was born from duality: a love for clothing, and a disdain for fashion. An industry based on exploitative labour and environmental degradation, sustained by imposing a trend cycle so granular and frequent we now have week-long “microtrends”. After self-evaluating my continual need to buy into new fashion, I concluded the way we fundamentally think about clothing consumption needed to change. Months of research and iterative design lead to WeekWear, a shelving and hanger system which demands curation through a magnetic system that allows a finite number of items to be stored in the wardrobe. Later, I added “pockets” in the shelving allowing for a few additional items to be stored beyond tops and pants. The result is a consciously designed product which forces intent and organization to the process of buying and dressing, and an appreciation that, what we have is already more than enough.
