Undergraduate Thesis

“Historically the performing arts have uplifted the human spirit, provided space for auto reflection and alternative perspectives. The performing arts promote social discourse, dialogue, and engage in social change. I argue, that these promotions are only applicable to patrons that can afford to consume production and attend conciertos. The commodified performing arts is exclusive and marginalizes community members who cannot afford to consume it. Therefore, the objective of this thesis is to spatially decommodify the performing arts to foster cultural enrichment, equity, civic engagement and innovation. This is demonstrated with the creation of a park for performance.”
