Terms of Contact: Cultural Identity in the Domestic Space

My thesis explores cultural identity through domestic scenes shaped by food, gathering, and routine. As a Chinese-born Canadian, I examine how identity forms through familiar moments at home. Working in realist oil painting, I focus on objects and gestures that reflect lived experience. Drawing on Homi K. Bhabha’s “Third Space,” I present identity as negotiated, evolving, and shaped through everyday interaction.
