“By combining Iranian cultural elements with contemporary methods, I address human sensations such as self-identity, sense of belonging, and the barriers to communication.”
Parnian Parvin is an Iranian interdisciplinary artist and vocalist based in Toronto. She has worked in different mediums such as installation, stop motion, photography, music, and performance. Her works focus on the interconnections between body, space, and human feelings. Through her art, she explores the influence of incorporating cultural elements in creating spaces to which individuals can relate. Through interactive installation, her MFA thesis project focuses on the notions of loss, memory, identity, and home, by exploring the possibility of recreating her home on a new land in conversation with the Persian carpets she has lived on, and the memories attached to them.
