“Since I can remember I have been entranced by grocery stores and the overwhelming amount visual stimulation they provide. In my work, I bring my love affair with the grocery store into paint. This work feeds me literally and figuratively!”

I am a Toronto-based artist and recent graduate of OCAD University in the Drawing and Painting program. In my 2019-2020 thesis year I spent a semester studying abroad in Florence, Italy. A self proclaimed grocery store fanatic, I recreate my favourite products into artworks with paint, plaster, polymer clay, and wood. Much of my work is influenced by my interest in exploring the relationship between food and feelings. Growing up in a household that heavily prioritized healthy eating, I found it hard to participate in childhood lunchroom banter about fruit by the foot when I had a fruit leather instead. These “forbidden foods” became more and more desirable because of how scarce they were. Using my work I create a feeling of nostalgia similar to the feeling that I have walking through a grocery store.
