Criticism and Curatorial Practice
“Breathing life into my thesis concept over this past year has been one of the most rewarding experiences throughout my time studying curatorial studies at OCAD University. Having the opportunity to listen and discover meaningful connections between the artists and their artworks has helped me to understand the role of a curator as a caretaker of stories.”
Samantha Lance is an emerging curator currently based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Her research explores the intersections between spirituality, nature, and art. Throughout her studies at OCAD University, she gained a strong foundation in art history, experimented with new forms of media, and developed invaluable skills pertaining to exhibition-making. She is currently working as a curator for helloart, a company based in Toronto that connects local artists with businesses to exhibit and sell their artwork. Following her graduation, Samantha seeks to obtain a Master’s degree in curatorial practice. As an advocate for contemporary artists, she feels empowered to foster a stronger relationship between art and communities through her curatorial work.
