Design for Health

“I have a keen interest in developing solutions to complex issues through stakeholder-centred design. I strongly believe in listening to all perspectives to better understand an issue and create a solution that truly meets the needs of the users. As a healthcare professional and an individual with a disability, I am an ally and advocate for patients and the disability community, whose voices are not always heard. Through my work, I hope to expand the impact of design and the definition of health beyond the borders of the healthcare industry.”

I am a graduate student in the Design for Health program at OCAD University and I have a passion for information and communication design. Working as a frontline healthcare professional over the past 10 years has given me insight into the challenges that are faced by patients and healthcare providers during their interactions. Such challenges can often be magnified by communication barriers, leading to reduced quality of care. I also have a keen interest in knowledge translation and helping individuals build health literacy in order to empower them to make informed health decisions and self-advocate. Outside of school and work, I take part in disability advocacy work through my roles as co-founder and volunteer of a local non-profit organization, Hand Over Hand Community Organization.
