“Accessibility to me really means inclusivity in action. It was important to me that VR becomes more accessible as the use of virtual platforms have increased in the past few years, with some companies shifting to remote work. VR is being used for training scenarios where its too dangerous to do in person. VR has also seen an increase in social VR; that is planforms that allow groups to interact in a virtual world. VR isn't new, VRChat; the most used VR app in the steam store, has been around since 2017. However, with behaviours in business in recent years trending to remote work and training online its not hard to imagine companies having events, company outings, seminars or training in VR or a VR adjacent platform. It's important that these platforms have tools and features in place to allow for customized experiences and have multiple ways of interaction for a range of abilities. For this project I focused on audio communication in VR and made feature to indicate the user speaking in a visual way as well as what they were saying without disrupting the users view. My hope is that this project would allow members of the deaf community to participate in social VR. I also wanted to note that features like captioning are not only used by the deaf community. Making VR accessible to one group often makes it more accessible to many, such as users with devices that aren't functioning normally and for people with cognitive disorders. VR can be confusing and overwhelming and having a consistent place to look for information makes it more useable to many people. ”

As a visual thinker, I often sketch out objects, processes and my ideas to understand the details. I love interacting with people and getting feedback. Understanding people's needs on a deep level helps inform the design choices in my designs. My main interests at the moment are in interaction design and experience design. I like collaborative projects and take leadership roles when needed. I am honoured to be on the committee for the Industrial Design 2023 Graduating Exhibition: "Metamorphosis". One thing that ties all our projects together from this year is the desire to make an impact and shift or make change. I hope you enjoy the projects my peers and I have worked all year to present for you.
