“I am extremely interested in the individual memory of childhood that an adult carries with them and how childhood images can have such immense emotional value. Each one of my portraits captures an image of people that I love and a window into their memory of the distant past.”
Sarah Lodge (b. 2000) is an emerging artist currently working in Toronto, Canada. Known for her haunting and uncanny cut out oil portraits. Lodge explores themes of childhood, memory and nostalgia—the complexities of the individual memory from childhood that an adult carries with them and how childhood images can have such immense emotional value. Through conversations and reflection with her muses, Lodge is able to capture the essence of a memory by severing the canvas from spatial and temporal context. She is currently in her final year at OCAD University acquiring a BFA in Drawing and Painting with a Minor in English— Lodge is an art educator at The Toronto Heschel School that focuses on an integrated art educational practice.
