“Everything I’ve Ever Known delves into personal nostalgia, evolving into an exploration of collective memory. Through archival curation and imaginative reconstruction, Madelyn highlights the interplay of past and present, memory and emotion, within the tapestry of human experience. Viewers are invited into a landscape-like installation that aims to unlock distant memories. Perhaps it's an old toy they forgot they had, a slightly embarrassing memory with an old friend, or a birthday party at the local roller rink. ”
Madelyn Schutz (b.2000) is a Toronto-based queer artist, specializing in painting, printmaking, and comics. Born in Minnesota she often reflects on her adolescent years in midwestern suburbs. She finds inspiration in her surroundings, pop culture, personal life events, and the coming-of-age experience. Madelyn’s rabbit doll Lady Sarah is a recurring character throughout her work and is often used as a self-insert and to blur the lines between fantasy and reality. Madelyn is in her final year at OCAD University to get her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Cross-Disciplinary Art: Life Studies. She will graduate this spring and showcase her work at OCAD University GradEx 109 and a Life Studies Exhibition at Gallery 1313 in Toronto.
