Born in China, she lives and works in Toronto, Canada. As a Toronto-based textile student, the founder of the sustainable home and pet textile brand FreddieMade and an emerging artist. Her creative journey is deeply rooted in the intricate intersections of mental health issues, personal stories and exploration of societal reflection. Textiles and digital works are her primary medium and language, accompanied by other material explorations like wires and ceramics. These allow her to express the intangible aspects of emotion and cognition through surface designs, garments, and installations. Her artwork always shows a sense of conflict between well-organized shapes and chaotic colours. The subjects always come from transient feelings and thoughts captured from memories and experiences. Every creation to her is a defamiliarization process; it lets her communicate her thoughts in more detail through her artwork by flashing back and re-experiencing the past. She uses surrealism and neo-expressionism in her work to describe psychological tenors like mania and depression, and she aims to convey turbulent emotions and seek a sense of balance in a way that is accessible to a broad audience while also providing a self-reflective opportunity.
