Sculpture and Installation

“An experimental art practice that transitions between materials and forms connects the natural and artificial worlds. This approach reconsiders the ethics surrounding environmentalism, late capitalism, multiculturalism, and beauty, inviting a deeper engagement with the complexities of our ever-changing landscape. ”

Matt Trinh has forged a path in the art world that reflects his deep connection to the environments he inhabits. Starting in Calgary, he balanced a welding career with his passion for painting, attending classes in the evenings and weekends. His paintings led to an invitation from the Knox Contemporary Gallery of Art. When the pandemic closed the gallery doors, Trinh made the bold choice to leave his stable job and pursue art full-time in Vancouver. At Langara College, he discovered a passion for sculpture fabrication, drawing on skills from his welding background. He graduated with a diploma in Fine Arts and earned the Langara Fine Arts Program Award. Now based in Toronto, Trinh is in the Sculpture and Installation program at OCADU. Currently, his art engages with the interplay between man-made structures and nature, sparking vital conversations about our impact on the environment. He hopes to continue exploring this timely and important theme when he attends graduate school in the fall of 2027.
