Born and raised in Toronto, Lexie is an animator, comic artist, filmmaker, and extreme lover of all things cinema. She cultivates a "one (wo)man band" mentality fusing score composition, filmmaking, design, and animation into ever more ambitious projects. She has recently been accepted to the York University Cinema & Media Studies graduate program. ________________________________________________________ I am an animator first, and a filmmaker second - my practice is driven by a love of art cinema, and a tenderness for the aesthetics of childhood. Every piece is an opportunity to learn, and become better at my craft. I pride myself in taking charge of nearly every aspect of production - from recording sound effects, to musical composition, to character and set design. Animation is the only medium with which I can fully express myself. Removed from the social demands necessitated by most live-action narrative filmmaking - animation allows me to create everything from scratch without concern for the limits of reality. My work favours bug-eyed characters, living teddy bears, and destructive cats that mingle with the dark and the light. I rely on bright colours, and cartoonish sensibilities to highlight the void that exists on the periphery for all of us. Overtime these themes have matured considerably - incorporating comedy, and psychological horror. My Thesis film - The Forest Fox - is my most ambitious work to date. It tells the story of Clementine, a young woman who just can't seem to fit in anywhere or do anything right. In an effort to change her fate she embarks on a surreal journey through the Deep Dark Forest in search of Skogrev, the mischievous yet "therapeutic" fox. Incorporating fantasy, surrealism, and a dose of 90's nostalgia, The Forest Fox is a poignant reflection on the emotional turmoil of being a kid.
